Crawling out after a year of pandemic hiding

In February of last year, I got a call from my sister that my mom had landed in the hospital. And that the doctor told her that she might die within the next week. My entire family marshalled up flight plans and hotels and headed to where mom was seriously ill. Covid was around then but only just beginning to be spoken of. On flights home, all of us going to our various locations were cautious, one member wore a bandana around his face, and I remember being highly aware of a man coughing his hea

Lawsuit Amended by Women Who want an injunction against Texas for Abortion Law-1st part

2nd part Everyone has read the horror stories of women who are being affected by the draconian and cruel law passed by Texas to prevent women from getting abortions past a certain date (not to mention how awful it was to take away someone's rights to their own health care and treat them like non-citizens who need to be guided by ignorant politicians rather than qualified doctors. What happens if a women needs emergency care because the fetus dies or otherwise has an issue? The law in Texas

Not many qualifications for a county judge in Texas

County. Org Back when I was younger and naive to local politics, I thought that a county judge had some special qualifications that made them particularly suited to be a judge. Qualifications such as some kind of legal expertise or experience in budgets or roads. Nope. County Judge Qualifications1 The County Judge must meet the following qualifications at the time of appointment or election: U.S. Citizen Resident of Texas for at least 12 consecutive months

Rumour Mill: On Putting People Who Have Felony Theft Convictions In Charge of Payroll in Government (Somervell County)

Somervell County has had at least three instances, that I know of, where an employee working for a public governmental entity, either embezzled money from the entity or worked with money while convicted of a felony.  One, back in 2015, was Melanie Reese, former City Secretary of Glen Rose who plea bargained theft of government funds. A second was Janice Nickell who embezzled from Glen Rose Medical Center in 2013. And then there was Liz Morgan, who embezzled church money and spent at least part o

Lawsuit Amended by Women Who want an injunction against Texas for Abortion Law-second part

Continuing from would not survive to birth. She was advised that continuing her pregnancy put her at a higher risk of developing preeclampsia, placental abruption, and deadly blood clots. Yet, she was denied an abortion because the hospital said it was unsure whether her conditions satisfied Ohio’s abortion- ban exceptions. She and her husband immediately scheduled an abortion at a hospital in Michigan. But, soon after, a Michigan appeals court allowed the state’s 1931 abortion ban

Texas Republicans Sneak in Bigoted Language in Education Bill HB890

Texas Freedom Network   Here's what I find ironic. These Texas Republicans are all about preventing children from learning about the diverse world as it is, and yet are trying to stuff 10 commandments posters into every classroom. If this jackass really feels this way, then why is he trying to put the Lege in the place of decision makers instead of parents with regard to the 10 commandments? Worse than a hypocrite. What is he, a christian nationalist instead of a normal person?

Under this proposed Texas law, would children who dont want to participate in prayer or Bible readings or religious texts have to leave the classroom?

Read this bill and tell me if this isn't one of the stupidest bills the Texas Lege has come up with yet.  Maybe it's written for ignorant Texans that don't know nothing stops any kid from reading the Bible or praying as long as they aren't disrupting class and paying attention during instructional time. They can pray before school, at lunch, etc. Nobody stops 'em. They can even bring a Bible into school, just like any kid can bring in a so-called Banned Book to read. If it makes a child feel bet

What's going on with the rape trial (civil) against Trump?

No, not the one, Jane Doe v Donald J Trump and Jeffrey Epstein from 2016 (US District Court Southern District of New York) PDF Trump was originally supposed to go testify in the E Jean Carroll civil case, but decided to go fly away to Scotland instead of going to court. Guess he figures he's going to lose anyway so why not go golfing. What's hilarious is that he was asked by an Irish reporter why he went golfing instead of attending his own rape case, including "But does it not show disre

Those HeGetsUs ads are awful and being pushed by a bigot organization that was caught illegally smuggling artifacts

NPR   Hobby Lobby and smuggling artifacts.   Remember when Hobby Lobby went to court because they didn't want to pay for birth control for their employees? Hobby Lobby, in 2021 lost an 11 year fight to block a trans woman from the bathroom. Tried to get a public school to use THEIR Bible textbook Wanted to be able to discriminate against LGBTQ on the basis of religion. Yes, a religion of hate and bigotry regardless of the huge amount of money this organi

Texas Lege Wants to Force Religion into Schools via underqualified religious chaplains as guidance counselors

Makes ya wonder how many christian nationalists are actually in office that don't give a hoot about either the US constitution or the Texas constitution. Anyway, this is absurd and waiting for a lawsuit to happen, not to mention how bigoted this idea is. What is it? That Texas public schools can decide, rather than hire a qualified guidance counselor, to hire a chaplain instead. Because where every public school being paid for tax dollars wants is some pushy religious types using an offic

The Problem with the Texas Lege trying to turn public classrooms into mini-churches is that...

Update: the bill that would have required Texas public schools to display the 10 Commandments in every classroom has failed. Good. Shows that Republicans are not serious people but just want to rile up ignorant people who don't understand separation of church and state 1. Not everyone is a christian. The bill to put the 10 commandments in every school, in every classroom, is nonsense.DMN 2. Not everyone wants their children to be indoctrinated by fairy tales 3. What they want to

Republicans Stepped in Chit with Abortion Ban and Now Want to Pretend the Horrible Things They're Doing are *Common Sense* and *Reasonable*

Why, it was only a couple of weeks ago that some Republicans were telling women to just move on and forget about that they were doing re: abortion bans. Yeah, forget that some states were STILL passing laws to limit abortion to 6 weeks, make women have multiple appointments over several days before they cold even get on, maybe forced to have a sonogram, or having to leave the state if, god forbid, they have to get an abortion for any reason AFTER 6 weeks. (At which point, incidentally, a lot of

After Mass Shooting in Allen (Collin Co TX), Kook Keith Self Attacks People Who Don't Believe in Prayer, Instead of Fixing the Problem

I wonder why someone runs for office if they don't believe THEY have responsibility for gun violence in their own district. Self seems to want to act like it's other places that have these problems, while his district has God looking over it and therefore is somehow immune. Well, it's not, is it. And god didn't protect his constituents, but instead allowed a child of 5 years old to die, among other murder victims.  Prayer did not save those people, but again, where is HIS responsibility as an el

Selling Pardons? Justice Department Needs to Look into what Rudy Guliani may have done in teamwork with Donald Trump

DemocracyNow An interesting part of the video with this article regarding the process of getting a pardon   So, what in the world is the Office of the US Pardon Attorney for if people can just go around it, probably have no investigation but instead possibly under the table pardons given out to those with lots of money. Feels like everything was a grift under the table with the Trump administration. Anyone, I believe, should be able to go to the OPA and ask to see the papers for

Supreme Court Alito is ignorant, whiny and delusional

Deadline- MSN Alito wants everyone to look at the person who leaked about the Roe v Wade decision (which was full of baloney court decisions that showed his stupidity) not have freedom of speech to criticize the court as an illegitimate institution, all while taking AWAY a right of women and making them less than full citizens. Poor Poor Alito. Won[t people just bow down to him since he sits on the court and shut up with the criticism? I think every American is pretty tired of the she

Places I will never visit on vacay due to pro-death, anti-Democracy Republican bigots, kooks and christo-fascists

Category 1: States that do not recognize that women are full citizens with the right to control their own health care, with govt staying out of their business. I was a full citizen of the United States with the right to privacy about decisions regarding having children, but it turns out not only that certain members of the Supreme Court are confederacy-loving idiots, but also the Republican party wants to relegate women to second class. That may fly for authoritarian religious nuts but not for t
